Going up and down the river

For research, conference, and meetings I drove several times up and down the Columbia River. Here some pics from the road:

Beacon Rock, the exposed core of an ancient volcano, dominates the middle section of the Gorge. It stands 848 feet tall above the Columbia River, and is considered to be the second largest monolith in the world, next to Gibraltar.
